1% of all PCs are Infected my ID Theft malware
According to Panda Security, an online virus and malware scanner service, one out of every 100 computers are infected with malware designed to steal your personal information. These malware programs steal information like your bank account login and investment information and anything else of value.
As many of the malware venders do, Panda offers an online scanner that will tell you if you have any bad or malicious software on your computer. Of course as any good security company would do the log all the information to better protect people. Panda scanned 67 million computers and found that 1% of them have some kind of ID theft malware.
If the percentage stays true to the entire population that means that roughly 10 million users have been affected. That is a huge number of people that could get their identities stolen. Russian and China have been a long time source for malware and malicious programs. According to this report Brazil and Korea are now getting in on some of that action. Let’s just hope they don’t have some kind of malware competition.
I don’t know about you, but I would like a little protection from programs like this. If these programs somehow got a hold of my social security number and the thieves used it to apply for credit cards I would want someone to prevent that from happening.
