7,000 Puerto Rico Children Identities Stolen

puertoricoI know what you might be thinking. Why would anyone want to steal the identities of children? Children don’t have any credit why would you want it? That my friend is exactly the point, children don’t have credit and that’s why no one suspects that someone would be using it. Identity thieves steal children’s identities because they can build their credit up and in a relatively short period of time and have enough credit it do a lot of damage. Identity thieves can also use children’s identities for a longer period of time because no one is checking their credit reports to stop it.

I was a little disturbed when I was reading about seven thousand children in Puerto Rico who had their identities stolen after members of any identity theft ring broke into a number of schools and stole birth certificates and social security numbers, from the school’s files. The authorities have seven of the criminals in custody and are still looking for one more.

The criminals were illegal immigrants from the Dominican Republic and were seeking to sell the information to immigrants planning on entering the US illegally.

Just think there could be people running around the US with stolen identities of little Puerto Rican children. Not a very happy thought is it?

  2. I can’t believe that someone would do that to all those little children. It’s just another reason to keep an eye out on your children’s identities.
