An honest LifeLock review

Honest reviews on the web are nearly an oxymoron at this point. The web is a place void of credibility and without references or a body of work it’s hard to tell who you can trust. That’s why when I say I’m going to provide an “honest” LifeLock review that I know there will skeptics. And there is no way for me to fully convince those people that what I say is the truth. But for me, this is my honest review of LifeLock services.
I signed up for LifeLock earlier this year. I’ve luckily never been a victim of ID theft or had fraudulent credit charges placed on my account. The majority of my time (both work and extracurricular) is spent online. I see most of the ID theft stories, breaches and hacks when they come out and know that the web isn’t a safe place. While I consider myself cautious and aware of my digital surrounds, I’m also wise enough to know that sometimes theft can be completely out of your hands.
There are two ways of looking at LifeLock’s services. You can see it as a type of “firewall” between you and identity thieves or you can see it as an unnecessary service that doesn’t really benefit you. There are already a few services I use that people could call “unnecessary.” For instance, I have a life insurance policy. Aside from possibly cashing it out it will never benefit me. I also have flood insurance on my house. It’s very unlikely that I’ll ever have to use it. While LifeLock isn’t an insurance, I view their service in the same light: I may never have to use it, but it certainly puts my mind at ease having it.
Since I’ve had LifeLock I haven’t had any cases of theft or fraud. I also never had it before LifeLock. I can’t say that thanks to LifeLock my live has been fraud-free, because it very well could have been the same if I never became a member. But I can say that LifeLock has given me piece-of-mind. While I’m still very protective of my ID and information I provide, I don’t have to dwell on what would happen if my information was stolen. I now know that if I was an ID theft victim then LifeLock would be there to help.
I have an advocate now in case things ever go bad. That, to me, is why I don’t mind paying the cost of a lunch once a month for their service.
