Bad Girls Charged with Stealing over 2,100 AT&T Customer’s Identity

July 14, 2009 – 3:53 pm

badgirlsA federal grand jury laid down three indictments of identity theft to three women yesterday. It is believed the all girl group stole the information of over 2,100 AT&T customers and used some to get payday loan advances.

The bad girl trio was able to collect around $70,000 by using the stolen information and forging fake driver’s licenses with stranger’s photos attached. They then faxed in a copy of the driver’s license and a form and collected their deceitful winnings. Luckily for the 1,970 other people on the list, the female fraud faction was only able to rob 130 people before being found out. One of the women worked as a temp employee for AT&T and was able to gain access to the personal data. The other two women worked on forging and collecting the stolen loans which were funneled into bank accounts set up by the three.

The majority of the victims didn’t find out that they had their identities stolen until they received calls from collection agencies seeking the loan amounts back — plus a hefty amount of interest. If convicted, the trio will have to pay back the $70,000 and hand over the computer equipment used to make the fake license. Each count of wire fraud (of which they have five a piece) carries a maximum of twenty years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The identity theft charges tack on an additional 2 years to a sentence if found guilty.

If the book is thrown that could mean a potential 102 years in federal prison and a fine of $1,250,000. A perfect example of how crime never pays.
