How Does LifeLock Work and How Does it Protect you?
December 3, 2008 – 1:41 pmYou may be asking yourself how does LifeLock work to protect me from identity theft. LifeLock doesn’t just monitor your credit for you it does so much more than that. LifeLock takes a proactive approach to protecting your identity. So what does LifeLock do that protects your identity well lets find out.
LifeLock Day 1
As soon as you sign-up for LifeLock you are immediately covered by LifeLock’s 1 Million dollar Service guarantee*. Within the first 24 hours of enrolling LifeLock will place fraud alerts on your accounts on your behalf. This ensures that the banks have to call you to verify your identity before issuing a new line of credit or expanding your credit limit. If someone tries to apply for a credit card in your name the bank is required to call you to confirm your identity. If you are not the one applying for the card then the transaction is stopped. LifeLock will also send you your credit report directly to you so that you can review it. LifeLock will automatically send your credit report to you once a year.
LifeLock Day 2
LifeLock starts to remove your e-mail address from junk mail lists. This is important because a lot of people send out information over the Internet. Protecting your computer from getting e-mails with viruses can prevent them from stealing information from you. LifeLock also removes you from pre-approved credit card offers this too can help prevent thieves from using these documents to apply for credit cards and stealing your identity.
LifeLock’s not done yet
LifeLock will perpetually place your accounts on fraud alert every 90 days. This ensures that the banks will always call you to confirm your identity before issuing any kind of credit. What happens if you loose your wallet? LifeLock has you covered there too. LifeLock can assist you in contacting each affected credit card, bank or document issuing company to cancel your cards and get them replaced. LifeLock will help you replace your credit/debit cards, driver’s license, social security card, insurance cards, checkbook and travelers checks.
LifeLock – Always on the Lookout
LifeLock is always on the lookout for your information to pop-up on the Internet. LifeLock’s eRecon services will search known criminal websites to find your information. LifeLock will make sure that none of these sites have your Social Security number, credit card number, e-mail address or driver’s license number. LifeLock’s TrueAddress services will inform you if they detect a change in address associated with your name. This ensures that identity thieves can’t change your address without you knowing.
Seems to me LifeLock has the leg up on companies that just offer credit monitoring. If you would like to become a member of LifeLock you can use our promotion code, Defense.
*Guarantee applies only if you become an id theft victim because of a failure in our service. Other restrictions apply. See LifeLock.com for details.

I never knew that LifeLock offered such robust services. I always thought that LifeLock was just a service that offered to do free services for and and charge you for it, but it seems that you get your moneys worth. I think I’ll have to look into it more carefully. Thanks for the info.

I think that the idea of LifeLock is a good one I’m just not sure it’s for me. I feel that I do a good job of securing my personal information. I never use my social security number on anything. If a form asks for I just leave it blank.

I got LifeLock and I think its great. I got one of those letters in the mail saying that I may be at risk for identity theft. So I got life lock and haven’t had to worry about it.

Lauren, you really couldn’t be more wrong about that. There is absolutely no way to stop identity thieves from finding your personal information. If you have ever gone to school, been to the dentist, gone to the doctor, gotten a driver’s license, bought anything online ever, or been born in America, your information is out there for identity thieves to find. We constantly hear of massive data breaches from all the above sources, and anyone with personal information in these sectors can be at risk thanks to weakness in security or the mistakes of employees you never knew even had your information. It is basically impossible to keep your identity from being compromised these days.

So true, Andrew. We can all pretty much assume our identity is already compromised but thankfully that’s no problem for lifelock customers. Life lock is designed to work even if your information is already in the hands of identity thieves. It actually assumes your identity is already out there and works to make it worthless to them. You may have noticed the CEO of lifelock, Todd Davis, has flashed his real social security number all over the world, just to show how useless his information is to them because he is protected by life lock. I’d say that kind of assurance is well worth the money. Especially if you get the discount from the lifelock promotion code from this site.

I like the fact that LifeLock has a guarantee. It means a lot to me that a company is confidant enough in their product to offer a 1 million dollar guarantee for their product. They are saying that they too believe in the product.

I think its nice that they remove you from all the junk mail lists. I HATE getting junk mail I really do. I can’t stand all that crap that kinds it’s way into my life.

It’s very important to get a credit report and make sure that everything is okay. I don’t understand why people can go so long without seeing their credit. Just by making people get their credit report LifeLock is already protecting you.
