HSE Laptop stolen makes all employees vulnerable to ID theft
October 6, 2008 – 3:21 pmAbout 13 days after a laptop was stolen from the HSE headquarters the employees were informed that their data had been stolen. This is not the first time a computer has been stolen from the HSE. This Laptop was stolen from the Administrator’s head quarters in dublin. The computer had on it, medical card holders information that could be used to steal their identity. The information on the computer was not encrypted but there was a password on the account which will not stop anyone who knows what they are doing.
This is the second computer that was been stolen in the last couple weeks. A computer,Blackberry and storage disks from the home of a senior medical officer were stolen not very long ago. This breach included the information of 1,150 people who had been gathered for a survey on the influenza vaccine. According to a statement the HSE has promised to increase its security to prevent any further information from being stolen.
Even though this incident happened in Dublin Ireland it shows that identity theft threats are universal and that it’s happening all over the world. Identity theft is a problem that affects the whole world. Help protect yourself and your loved ones with LifeLock. To receive a discount on LifeLock, use LifeLock promotion code Defense.
