Id theft ring busted in Virginia

Six people were arrested in Virginia for identity theft. Of the people that were arrested there was one emergency room clerk, a civic league official and two car salesmen. The group of thieves would steal personal information from unsuspecting people. Then the car salesmen would take the information and apply for car loans. The group would then pocket the money and split it up among the group.
The emergency room clerk was the first of the six to plea guilty to charges of identity theft. According to police the emergency room clerk went into the computer at work and looked up patient information not to change it but to record it. She would then pass the information along to her fiancé the car salesman. Two patients identities were stolen to get two different car loans one for a 36,000 BMW and a 25,000 Acura. They then pocketed the money from the loans. The emergency room clerk was paid 2,000 for her part of the scheme.
The emergency room has informed its patients of the data breach and the patients that had their information compromised have been offered free credit monitoring protection. The hospital takes its patients privacy very seriously and is sorry for whatever harm it may cause for those parties involved.
The other three suspects including a man that was part of a neighborhood association is accused of stealing information from the members of the association. The man was doing the same as the car salesmen were doing. He stole the information from the members and then a car salesman used it to apply for car loans through the same credit union.
The Navy Federal Credit Union caught wind of the scam and informed the police. The other three suspects were caught before two of their loan check could be cashed.
