Let LifeLock make your move a little less stressful

Samantha is a young, professional woman, in her mid-20s. She recently got a promotion at work, and decided the time had come to move out of her cramped studio apartment, and into one that is larger and offers more amenities.

So she packed her bags, recruited some friends to help, rented the moving truck, and prepared for her move.

But what she wasn’t prepared for was identity theft. Samantha filled out a change of address card at her local post office, and turned it in. But someone at the post office dropped the ball, and didn’t forward her mail to her new apartment. When her mail was delivered to her old address, the new tenants simply left the mail sitting on a counter. Samantha’s mail, including a bank statement, credit card bill and pre-approved credit offers, was picked up by a thief.

The thief used the information he obtained to obtain credit cards in her name and then use them. When Samantha contacted her post office about the problem, the attitude of the postal worker was, “Oops.”

Her advice? Be wary of change of addresses. Even if you fill the card out at the post office and turn it in there, be sure to keep an eye out for the letter you will received from the post office, confirming your change of address. If you don’t get such a letter within a couple of weeks, check with the post office to be sure your change has been properly handled.

You may want to send your own change of address letters to your bank, credit card issuers, magazines, etc. Don’t rely completely on the post office to take care of it.

As a LifeLock customer, you can rely on TrueAddress™. This service is designed, as part of LifeLock’s Command Center™, to detect any new address information in address databases nationwide. If a detected address change is found to be fraudulent, LifeLock will work with you to restore accurate address information and prevent damage.

Moving is stressful enough. Let LifeLock make it easier.
