LifeLock has its Five Year Anniversary

It’s been five years since LifeLock began offering its services to members in April of 2005. At the time, LifeLock had a revolutionary approach to identity theft and fraud. They weren’t going to just let you know when it happened to you; they were going to help prevent it from ever happening. Now that seems to be a common goal with most prevention services that have popped up since LifeLock. However, at the time, it was a new way to handle ID theft prevention. LifeLock was the first to do this and still remains the best.

LifeLock did this by placing credit fraud reports on members accounts and refreshing them every 90 days. Instead of being alerted after someone used their credit or identity fraudulently, these alerts make the agency contact the member first to approve access to their file. If the member knew nothing about it then it was most likely an attempt by a thief to steal their identity. LifeLock surrounded this service with many more vital and preventative measures and began selling the service. Starting with just 2,500 members by the end of 2005, LifeLock has gown to have over 1.7 million members.

Along with LifeLock’s growth in members has come a growth in services offered. LifeLock no longer placed fraud alerts on members accounts (something that they can do themselves). Instead, LifeLock provides a gamut of preventative measures — everything from searching illegal trading websites that sell your personal information to providing immediate notifications by email, phone and mail whenever someone uses your information to apply for credit to proactively detecting use of your address in fraudulent means.

Not many people know that LifeLock has actually existed for eight years now. They just spend the first three researching and creating the best preventative measures to combat identity theft. Now, with eight solid years of experience under their belt, and five experience of combating identity theft for their members, how could you not see LifeLock as the leader in identity theft protection?
