The LifeLock Strike Back Tour
February 18, 2008 – 1:46 pmBeginning February 24, LifeLock’s CEO Todd Davis will strike out on the Strike Back Tour to educate consumers on identity theft issues, and to ask Congress to pass tougher prevention and penalty laws.
Davis is hoping that the grassroots effort will create a groundswell of support for changes in the way identity theft is handled. He’ll be leading seminars and hosting events in 13 southeastern cities to bring attention to the issues that affect consumers. He’ll also be circulating a petition he plans to deliver to Congress at the end of the tour, March 6.
The petition asks that legislators enact laws prohibiting the sale of personal information, penalizing data breaches, funding law enforcement efforts and improving oversight of Social Security numbers. The petition can also be signed online at LifeLock.com. The notes of online signors indicate clearly that many Americans (as well as people from as far away as Switzerland, Portugal, and India) are anxious to see a change in the way government addresses identity theft. Some examples:
- “I have been a victim of identity theft from another country. It cost me a lot of money, time, & hassle. Something needs to be done.”
- “I was a victim and now I’ve become (an) advocate for fighting against this crime. No one should have to go through what I did. I felt like every system (e.g. the city, the state, the post office, the banks, the courts) failed me. It’s time to take this terrible crime seriously!”
- We all need help RIGHT NOW! My stolen identity has the potential to haunt me for years and law enforcement is complacent. That’s one of the reasons this is so prevalent. The thieves know no one is looking for them! Help us all Now!
