Man Arrested Several Times Because of Identity Theft PartII
October 25, 2008 – 1:38 pm The nightmare doesn’t stop there. Byrd was then fired from his Part-time job for failing to disclose his criminal recored which he didn’t really have. A couple months later he was fired from him full-time job. When he tried to get his unemployment benefits they were denied because of his “criminal recored” which were a result of the identity theft. Not to mention that DMV was trying to suspend byrd’s license for unpaid tickets that he wasn’t responsible for.
A year later Malcolm found another article online about another crime that the impostor Byrd had committed. He went to the county and submitted his finger prints to prove that he had nothing to do it. He was given a court document that stated his innocence in the matter. This didn’t prevent him from getting arrested two more times unfortunately. The second time wasn’t that big of a deal and was cleared up quickly. The most recent arrest landed him in jail for two days until the confusion was cleared up.
Malcolm was arrested at his house by police who had a warrant for his arrest and even threatened to send his kids to child protective services. Byrd’s mother-in-law arrived just in time to take care of the kids so they wouldn’t have to go. Because the warrants were from three different counties the police had to get confirmation from each before releasing Malcolm. It just so happen to be a holiday weekend and Malcolm had to spend it in jail.
Malcolm has considered changing his name and social security number to prevent anything like this from happening again.
I would rather have someone steal from me and make a mess of my credit then get arrested for something they did. This poor man was arrested three times, fired for his fake criminal recored, had benefits rejected and his license suspended because of his identity theft. Getting your money stolen is one thing, but having your life shattered is completely different. Criminal records can really ruin your entire life very quickly. There are lots of stories of this happening, and many times it is a result of stolen identity. With simple credit fraud, it can often be repaired (after long months of tedious paperwork), but a criminal record is very sticky and hard to clear off. You may have trouble getting a job for the rest of your life if you get this kind of ID theft.

I know this poor guy had his life turned upside down after someone stole his identity and decide to do a tap dance on it. That would terrible to be treated like a criminal when you’re really the victim.
