Military Identity Theft Ring

November 14, 2008 – 2:08 pm

Police uncovered an Identity theft ring that stole $2 million from 8,000 sailors from two different bases in Texas. One of the members of the theft ring was a former Navy Petty officer.

Cora Dixon, 33, who was discharged from the Navy in 2007, was involved with the scam as well as her boyfriend Seneca Willis, 26.  Dixon was charged with stealing identification information from the two Navy bases in Texas. They then used the information to forge fraudulent checks in the names of the victims.

Willis’s part in the scheme was to contact the bank and find out how much money was in the account. He illegibly paid an employee of Bank of America $100 for the balance of each bank account. Willis would then take the fraudulent checks to homeless shelters and get the homeless residence to cash the checks. Zachariah Long, 29, is also accused of getting the homeless to cash their fraudulent checks.

In all, the police think that 72 different homeless people were used to cash these fraudulent checks. The theft ring used the money to buy cars and pay for trips to the strip club. When the identity theft ring was stopped the police seized eight cars, 2 motorcycles and a truck. The amount stolen from all the victims totaled almost $2 million.

  2. You would think someone in the armed forces wouldn’t think of stealing the identities of people that they work with. I mean your job is to protect the country and each other in battle. How could someone have so little respect for their co-workers.

  3. I don’t know man everyone that goes into the army isn’t exactly the most respectable people. The army gets all kinds. They get the smart respectable and the dumb disgraceful ones. Let’s just hope that they get the disgraceful ones out before it’s too late.
