News Events Causing Identity Theft – Protect yourself with LifeLock

Identity thieves will do anything to get a hold of your personal information. Thieves will break in and steal or hack into your computer to get it. They will go through your mail and even go through your garbage to get those little bits of information needed to piece together credit card applications. They don’t need your life story just a social security number and date of birth to cause you months to years of cleanup and hearth ache.
With Obama’s inauguration in the news scammers have been feeding on the internet buzz on the subject. With e-mails and WebPages with titles such as “Barack Obama refused to be the president of the United States of America” and “There is no president in the USA anymore” scammers are installing malware designed to steal information from its host.
This is not the first time that scammers have tried this with big news stories. There was a malware attached to a fake Obama video not too long ago, and other stories that make it big in the news have received attention from scammers as well.
Of course the best way to prevent this kind of scam is to not click on the links in the first place. If you get an email from someone you don’t know with links in it just don’t click the links. At least move your curser over it so you can see where the link is going. If it’s a website that you know then it’s probably okay. If there are any doubts of the emails integrity then you probably should just delete the e-mail. Besides if it was real news then it would be on major networks as well and you could find the news there.
It also doesn’t hurt to have good anti-virus software and up-to-date updates to your operating system. This will solve a lot of problems when it comes to securing your information on your computer.
How does LifeLock fit into all this malware identity theft scamming? Well, what happens if someone gets your information and steals your identity anyway after you have already taken every precaution? There is no way to completely secure anyone’s identity. LifeLock can help prevent the thieves from using your private information to open credit cards or any other form of credit. If somehow your identity is stolen anyways you’re covered by their $1M dollar guarantee*. You can get a discount on a LifeLock membership by using our LifeLock promotion code, Defense.

I think it’s just shameful the way they use Obama as leverage for their scams and schemes. I think they should have more respect for the man than that. I guess there is honor among thieves.

It seems scammers will do just about anything to get your information and steal your identity. Everytime there is a big news story or even a down turning economy they will find a way to work it to their advantage.
