Todd Davis, LifeLock CEO, Defines Confidence
March 11, 2008 – 2:23 pmConfidence: a feeling of trust or faith that a person or thing is capable; freedom from doubt. See also, Todd Davis, LifeLock CEO.
The name Todd Davis might not immediately ring a bell, but if I tell you Todd Davis, LifeLock CEO, whose Social Security number is on TV, the internet, the radio, and buses and trucks all over the country, you probably know who I’m talking about. The rest of us are trying to keep our Social Security numbers a secret, and this guy’s flashing his around like a girl with a new engagement ring. Is he nuts?
Ask Davis him why he gives out his Social Security number, and he’ll tell you, “Because I’m absolutely confident that LifeLock is protecting my name and personal information.”
Davis is the CEO and founder of LifeLock, an identity theft prevention company based in Tempe, Arizona. He says he came up with the idea to divulge his own personal information so people would know that LifeLock was different from other companies that notify you after your identity has been stolen.
He says that when he gives out his Social Security number, the most that happens is he gets a couple extra phone calls on his cell phone from Target or Sears or a cell phone company asking if he’s opening a new account. All he has to do is say no, or not answer his phone, and that transaction is stopped dead.
Another indication of Davis’ confidence is the company’s $1 million total service guarantee. If a member’s identity is stolen and used fraudulently, LifeLock will fix the problem.
Besides his own claim that he’s absolutely confident rather than absolutely crazy, there are a couple other indicators that Davis is on the right track: Since he started the company in 2005, seven hundred thousand people have signed on. And, he’s never had to pay out that million bucks.
