Two men arrested for ID Theft

September 16, 2008 – 1:39 pm

Ming Quiang Luo and Hongmei He were caught at a Sony Style store trying to buy $800 worth of Playstation video games with a credit card that was part of an identity theft case. The dynamic duo were caught because they had already gone to the store once and purchased a computer.
Their large and unusual purchases sent up a red flag to the credit card company and the company called the cardholder who confirmed the purchases were fraudulent. The card company called the store to inform them that the charges were indeed fraudulent.  When the two returned to the same store to buy more merchandise they were apprehended while leaving the store.

They were apprehended with jewelry and electronics but oddly enough it was none of the items that the police had suspected they had stolen. The police knew there was a third member of the group and he must have taken off with the rest of the stolen merchandise. The third man is still at large and his whereabouts are still unknown.

The police said that the group of thieves were part of a large id theft ring that has started a new wave of id theft. They were equipped with a kind of id theft kit that had credit cards crossed with stolen drivers licenses. So the names on the cards were not who they were registered to. The identity thieves will pair up the information and then ring up charges and then toss all the information. By the time the police and persons involved realize what has happened the thieves have already moved onto someone else.

Its scary to hear that you can even buy an id theft kit from someone. Just another example how easy it is to have a team of people stealing identities and getting away with it. To receive a discount on a LifeLock membership, use the LifeLock Promo Code, Defense.
