Vacation Resort Worker Steals Identities of over 100 People on Vacation

flight When you’re on vacation the last thing you want to think about is your house getting broken into while you’re gone. For 128 people who visited the Fountain Beach Resort in Daytona Beach, Florida, they were all worrying for nothing. They’re houses were fine; it was their identities that were stolen.

Carlos Raynard Roberts plead guilty to felony charges of identity theft after stealing 128 people’s identities and using their payment information to book flights on airlines all over the country. The 22 year old Roberts said he did it because he wanted “to see America on somebody else’s dime.”

Robert, who was a booking agent at the Fountain Beach Resort had access to the reservation system for the Resort. He logged into the system and pulled the names, credit card numbers and addresses of his victims. He then used their information to pay for airline booking with Delta Airlines and popular online booking website Priceline.com. In fact, part of his latest judgment resulted in the restitution of $15,769 to both Delta and Priceline due to losses suffered by Robert’s fraudulent trips.

It’s getting so you can’t go anywhere without fearing for your identity. That’s why it’s always important to pay close attention to your credit card and bank account statements. The case against Roberts was started when one victim saw a $744 charge on her credit card for two airplane flights. After she reported the theft to police an investigation began that eventually landed Roberts in jail for a long time.

I bet he’s seeing more of America than he ever dreamed of now.
